Field-Trip: Glenafric Beach – North Canterbury
Date: Sunday 5th May 2019
Trip Leader: Carolyn C.
Attractions: Concretions, fossils, spectacular clay cliffs, seascapes.
Meet at: Just east of the turnoff onto the Mt Cass Road, Waipara, at 9.30am.
For a coffee beforehand, there’s Pukeko Junction or the Nor-wester in Amberley.
At low tide there are concretions visible – a miniature Moeraki – and kilometres of beach, with towering clay cliffs stretching away to the south. Northwards, there’s a rocky shore & a creek bed to explore. You may find fossils embedded in the concretions.
Low tide is around 11am, giving us time to wander south down the beach for an hour or two.
