Field Trip: Castle Hill Astro / Milky Way
Date: Friday 15th June (16th June if the 15th is wet or cloudy)
Attractions: Here’s an opportunity to practice your astro-photography at Castle Hill
limestone boulders at night with the Milky Way overhead.
The Milky Way starts to show up at about 6.30pm and is almost vertical with the galactic centre showing a bit above the horizon. By about midnight it is vertical but the galactic centre is almost overhead. If we stayed out there till 5.30am then the Milky Way will form a nice arch over the Southern Alps – that is if I have worked it all out correctly (we do not need to stay out ‘til 5.30am unless you are really keen J).
